The Legal Battle Between Fbi And Apple - 2339 Words
A federal judge ordered apple to help unlock an iPhone belonging to Syed Farook for the FBI, in which apple declined. Their logic behind declining the FBIââ¬â¢s request was that they would have to write new software that would be capable of opening hundreds and millions of phones. Apple executive Tim Cook argues that if the FBI could access this iPhone, nothing would stop them from doing it to many others. With these recent events the legal battle between the FBI and apple has reached its closing point, as the FBI found a way to hack into the apple device themselves. With this new information what privacy do we have if any information can be accessed regardless if itââ¬â¢s personal or protected? National security and personal privacy have been a hot topic for many years. With the NSA overstepping into our own privacy we never know if we are being watched or listened to. Zombies Free Essays
Zombies There is a current fad of entertainment in popular culture about zombies and zombie apocalypses. Have you ever heard of a real ââ¬Å"Zombieâ⬠? Have you ever thought of where this idea of ââ¬Å"Zombiesâ⬠came about? Theyre history does not stem from Hollywood or comic books. Zombies have a real history as well as an actual scientific capability of existing. We will write a custom essay sample on Zombies or any similar topic only for you Order Now Isak Niehaus (writer for The Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute) explained the cultural connection to zombies in Africa, and Wade Davis (writer for New York: Simon Schuster) researched the reports in Haiti of he zombie culture there. Ker Than researched the topic for National Geographic news and came up with startling possibilities of a zombie-like outbreak. Just about everybody knows about fictitious zombies, but less are familiar with the facts about zombies. There are many people zombies are very real. They arenââ¬â¢t a fable and are something to be taken seriously. Belief in magic and witchcraft is widespread throughout Haiti and the Caribbean, often in the form of religions such as Voodoo and Santeria. The Oxford English Dictionary, the term ââ¬Å"zombieâ⬠initially showed up in English around 1810 when historian Robert Southey declared it in his book ââ¬Å"History of Brazil. â⬠But this ââ¬Å"Zombiâ⬠wasnââ¬â¢t the typical Hollywood version of the brain-hungry horror. Instead it was a West African deity. The word ââ¬Å"zombieâ⬠later came to propose the human life force exiting the body, ultimately leaving a creature human in form but lacking self-awareness and intelligence. The word was introduced to Haiti and to other places from Africa through the slave trade. Isak Niehaus found that the term Zombie is used to describe a spellbound person deprived of cognizance and self- wareness, yet able to move and react to immediate provocations. Though many people treat the current ââ¬Å"zombie apocalypseâ⬠as a fun pop culture meme, Haitian culture â⬠like many African cultures â⬠is greatly immersed in faith in magic and witchery. Belief in zombies is related to the Voodoo religion, and has been widespread in Haiti for many years. Haitian zombies were said to be people brought back from the dead through magical means by voodoo priests called bokors or houngan. Sometimes the zombification was done as punishment which struck fear in those who believed that they could be abused even after death. Often the zombies were said to have been used as slave labor on farms and sugarcane plantations. A mentally ill farmer claimed to have been seized captive as a zombie worker for two decades, though he couldnââ¬â¢t show researchers where this had taken place. Researchers pursued a case in Haiti, 1937 of rumors that the affected persons were given a powerful psychoactive drug, but they were not able to locate anyone willing to offer much evidence. After many years the researchers concluded that there is more to Voodoo than ritual and that there is a medical base behind what is going on. Several decades later, Wade Davis, a Harvard ethno botanist, offered a pharmacological case for zombies some of his books. Davis went to Haiti in 1982 and, after investigations, claimed that a living being could be changed into a zombie by way of two specific powders being put into the circulatory system, most of the time by an open wound. One of the powders includes tetrodotoxin (TTX), a potent and often tatal neurotoxin tound in the putte The second powder consists ot dissociative drugs like datura. These powders could induce a deathlike state where will of the eing would be completely open to that of the bokor. Davis also popularized the story of Clairvius Narcisse, who was claimed to have succumbed to this practice. Davis described the case of an initial state of deathlike suspended animation, followed by reawakening into a psychotic state. The insanity induced by the drug and psychological trauma was hypothesized by Davis to strengthen socially learned beliefs and to cause the individual to rebuild their characteristics as that of a zombie, since they actually thought they were dead, and had no other role to play in the Haitian society. Though dead humans canââ¬â¢t come back to life, certain viruses can induce such aggressive, zombie-like behavior, scientists say in the new National Geographic Channel documentary The Truth Behind Zombies. For instance, rabies, a viral disease that infects the central nervous system can drive people to be violently mad. If a rabies virus was to combine with the ability of a flu virus, in order to spread quickly through the air, you might have the makings of a zombie apocalypse. The first signs a human has rabies, such as anxiety, confusion, hallucinations, and paralysis ont typically appear for ten days to a year after infection, as the virus incubates inside the body. This is very unlike movie zombies, which become reanimated almost immediately after infection. Once rabies sets in, though, itââ¬â¢s fatal within a week if left untreated. If the genetic makeup of the rabies virus went through enough changes, or mutations, its incubation time could be condensed dramatically. Many viruses have naturally high mutation rates and constantly change as a means of evading or bypassing the defenses of their hosts. For the rabies virus to cause an event like a zombie pandemic, not unlike the ones ou might see in a movie, it has to be much more contagious. Typically a human could catch rabies after being bitten by an infected animal and the infection usually stops there, but thanks to pet vaccinations, people seldom get rabies in the U. S. nowadays, and even fewer people die from the disease. For example, in 2008 only two cases of human rabies infection were reported to the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A faster mode of transmission would be through the air, which is how the influenza virus spreads. The movie 28 Days Later depicts a scenario of a age virus. If rabies somehow became airborne this movie would be very plausible. In order to be transmitted by air, rabies would have to mutate or use traits from another virus like influenza. Elankumaran Subbiah, a virologist at Virginia Tech, states that diverse forms, or strains, of the same virus can change pieces of genetic code using reassortment or recombination. Unrelated viruses, although, donââ¬â¢t Just randomly create hybrids in nature. Likewise, he also said ââ¬Å"Theyââ¬â¢re too different. They cannot share genetic information. Viruses assemble only parts that belong to them, nd they donââ¬â¢t mix and match from different families. Itââ¬â¢s theoretically possible for scientists to use a rabies virus and an influenza virus, though extremely difficult, to create a hybrid rabies-influenza virus using modern genetic engineering techniques. Sure, you could imagine a scenario where you mix rabies with a flu virus to get airborne transmission, a measles virus to get personality changes, the encephalitis virus to cook your brain wit n tever and throw in the ebola virus to cause you to bleed from your guts. You would probably get something like the zombie virus, but nature oesnââ¬â¢t let these things to happen all at the same time. Yetâ⬠¦ There is a vast history of zombies, from Africa to Haiti and other trade lands, all the way to Hollywood. The general focus of zombies is the entertainment of it all. To this day there are still cases of zombie voodoo and stories of dead people coming back from the grave. The focus should be on the possibilities of the future though. If Just one team of scientists with access to the means to hybrid existing viruses the entertaining idea of zombies on a TV would not be funny at all. Itââ¬â¢s not all that unreal now is it? Essay on My Opinion On Teaching Philosophy Example For Students
Essay on My Opinion On Teaching Philosophy There are many reason why I want to be a teacher. I adore children and I think they have a great sense of humor. Teachers also have a job security and that is important because not all jobs have that. I feel like in order to be a teacher I need to have have compassion for my students. As a teacher I want to care for my students and show them appreciation. I want my students to succeed in what they want in life. According to Ferlazzo (2015), ââ¬Å"Students work hardest for teachers they like and respect. When I am asked, ââ¬Å"How do I get students to like and respect me?â⬠my immediate response is, ââ¬ËLike and respect them first.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ I believe this whole heartedly because I have always been taught to treat others the way I want to be treated. It would appease me to know that I have mentored someone into being an intellectual individual. I would like to teach the second grade because I enjoy the energy they give off and I value the foundations of elementary educa tion. We will write a custom essay on on My Opinion On Teaching Philosophy specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The philosophy of teaching that I have chose is progressivism. According to Cohen (1999), ââ¬Å"Progressivists believe that education should focus on the whole child, rather than on the content or the teacher. This educational philosophy stresses that students should test ideas by active experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of learners that arise through experiencing the world.â⬠The progressivism philosophy is known as a student-centered philosophy which focuses mainly on the student itself. I think what Cohen is depicting is that with progressivism the teacher should focus on just the child and have hands on activities in order to help them mentally understand the experiment. Sometimes students actually have to be active in something in order to fully comprehend what is being taught. The progressivism philosophy can be brought into the classroom by allowing my students to participate in hands-on experiments, such as measuring the rain fall outside or using Cui senaire rods to set up a math problem. The primary goal for my students is to make sure they are learning the material of the curriculum through hands-on activities and that my classroom is a student-centered classroom. My philosophy of teaching is progressivism and one of the many goals is having a behavior strategy. I plan to manage my classroom by actively involving my students. I will have a five sectioned chart that ranges from green to blue. Green is being the best a student can possibly be and making good choices the whole day. I will reward my students for getting on the color green by giving them a piece of candy or letting them take a gander in the classroom treasure box. Blue is the worse color a student can get on and the consequences of blue are a parent/teacher conference or a referral to the office depending on how bad the behavior is. Utilizing the goal of progressivism in parental involvement is important in the management of a classroom. Parental involvement is a reflection on the studentââ¬â¢s behavior. Referring to the article Parent Involvement and Children s Academic and Social Development in Elementary School According to Bachman, Nokali, and Votruba-Drzal (1994), ââ¬Å"In this study parent involvement is conceptualized as a product of the interaction between the influences of school and home settings by providing continuity between the two environments. For example, if parents are aware of a teacher s instructional goals, they may provide resources and support for those learning aims at home.â⬠Parental involvement holds a big factor on the childââ¬â¢s life. Another goal of the progressivism philosophy is having hands-on activities for the students. Games are a great way to bring out the fun in a classroom. I would like to use games in my classroom because they help students learn without even realizing they are learning. Having students participate in games allows them to make new friends, improve their social skills, and make school fun. I believe games tie into the progressivism philosophy because they are student-centered. There are many other goals that fall under the progressivism philosophy. Hands-on activities, behavior control, and parental involvement are the ones I plan to utilize in my classroom. .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 , .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .postImageUrl , .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 , .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743:hover , .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743:visited , .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743:active { border:0!important; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743:active , .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743 .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u7b89bded61d9ac686a8018173f07b743:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The vast cyber-frontier is being threatend with censorship from the government EssayThe role of the teacher in the progressivism philosophy is to make sure the students are gaining all the knowledge they need through experimenting with hands-on activities and to focus mainly on the student. A studentââ¬â¢s interest is the upmost importance when it comes to designing a curriculum because if a student is not interested in what he or she is being taught they will not care to participate in the lesson. Respect is also a huge factor when it comes to the role of a teacher through the progressivism philosophy. The teacher has to respect his or her students in order to gain the respect back. Yelling at the students will not make them listen any better and providing rewards will not make them all good students. According to Zeiger (2016), ââ¬Å"Teachers must be leaders in the classroom and in the school, earning the respect of students and setting a positive example. They must be disciplinarians, doling out fair and consistent punishments to students who break the rules. At the same time, teachers must show care and concern for students.â⬠Zeiger gives some great examples of what the teachers role should be in his or her classroom. I think one of the key rolls she pointed out was to to be fair with the students and not to show favoritism to other students while targeting another for bad behavior. I am a firm believer of not having a double standard classroom. For example, if a studentââ¬â¢s parent works at the school I do not think it is acceptable for that student to have any more privileges than the other students whose parent does not work at t he school. Finally, progressivism is the philosophy I will utilize in my classroom. I will use the philosophy by allowing my students to participate I hands-on activities, behavioral control in the classroom, and parental involvement. My hands-on activities will consist of games and outside experiments. My studentââ¬â¢s behavior will be controlled by the five sectioned chart. I plan to have communication with my studentsââ¬â¢ parents and keep them updated on the many things we do in class as well as their childrenââ¬â¢s academic progress and behavior. I believe that all of these are very imperative in a student-centered philosophy
